Despite the threat of an arrest order, repentant Niger-Delta militants’ commander, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, on Thursday failed to appear before a Federal High Court in Lagos to answer to a 40-count charge of alleged N13bn fraud.
The charges were preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
While all those who were co-accused in the suit, including a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi, were present in court, only Tompolo failed to appear.
This led the trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba to issue a bench warrant on Tompolo, ordering the police to produce him in court by all means at the next sitting.
