Former deputy Governor of Benue state, Mr. Steven Lawani has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lawani, alongside two former federal ministers, Prof. Jerry Agada and Sam Ode; former federal permanent secretary, Mike Onoja; Senator Godwin Okpe and thousands supporters announced their defection on saturday.
The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who received the defectors in Oturkpo Local Government Area of the state on behalf of the party, said the district could not afford to be in opposition, while urging them to join the mainstream politics at the federal level.
He was referring to the forthcoming Benue-South Senatorial District rerun, scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), between Senator David Mark of the PDP and Daniel Onjeh of APC for February 20.
